10:00 – 11:00am PROGRAM PROPER

11:00 – 12:00nn Budol Solidarity Meal

On April 21, 2012 Filipino lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT), will join the Worldwide LGBT Civil Rights March(i) to
Demand for EQUAL RIGHTS and RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS of ALL PEOPLE Regardless of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI)!

The Philippines LGBT Civil Rights March is a call to action to:

• Remind us of the need to address the grave human rights violations against LGBT Filipinos; that victims of these violations must be given justice and that perpetrators must be arrested and punished.

• Respect the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people regardless of SOGI by the passage of the Reproductive Health bill – House Bill 4244 and Senate bill 2865

• Safeguard the retention of SOGI provisions of Senate Bill 2814. The bill, “the Anti-Ethnic, Racial or Religious Discrimination and Profiling Act,” which aims to penalize all forms of discrimination, has passed third reading in the Senate and is close to being finalized in Congress. The LGBT community is gravely concerned that anti-LGBT forces led by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) will succeed in removing the SOGI provisions of SB 2814.

• Demand the inclusion of SOGI in the ASEAN Declaration of Human Rights, which is being finalized and will be presented in the ASEAN Plus Summit in November 2012 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

It is hoped that the April 21 Worldwide LGBT Civil Rights March will impress upon our legislators the urgent need to pass the anti-discrimination law to include the protection of LGBT rights. This will be helped greatly by a large show of numbers of the LGBT community and its supporters this coming Saturday.

It is time to make a stand for the civil and political rights if LGBT persons in the Philippines so April 21, 2012 will be a celebration of LGBT rights and a testament to our continued fight for equal rights.

The Worldwide LGBT Civil Rights March is part of the international movement called “Let’s Reach 1 Million People Campaign… It’s a start!” for equal rights for LGBT people, to build upon the growing momentum around the world in support of equal civil rights for all LGBT. Initiated by American author and advocate Joseph C. Knudson a few months ago, this grassroots movement will unite various LGBT activists, organizations, and all other allies on April 21, 2012 in a historic event that will project to the worldwide community the LGBT demand for FULL CIVIL RIGHTS NOW.

CareDivas goes to Onstage,Greenbelt. April27-29

These shows will be shown at Onstage, Greenbelt as a result of the first-ever partnership of PETA and Repertory Philippines since the their founding forty-five years ago.

The scheduled encore performances are packed with the same combination of explosive dance numbers, fancy music, comedic antics, and a visual feast of glitter, wigs and high heels that enticed audiences of its earlier shows.

“Care Divas” remains as a highly physical, visually exciting play inspired by general life-stories of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW’s) who work as care givers of elderly Jews in the morning and pursue their own personal dreams as drag performers at night.

The play’s theatrical and wickedly funny text, written by award-winning Playwright, Liza Magtoto still cradles lovely gentle moments that mull over the lonely lives of the main characters.

The play's director Maribel Legarda shares the recognition of the plays success. In a review by (production designer/writer) Martin Masadao, Legarda is commended for her excellent treatment of the script: “Legarda does not patronize nor trivialize the OFW experience. It was good judgment on her part to exercise restraint so that the production does not come out too campy. The Care Divas' musical numbers are at the opposite end of the usual gay-comedy-bar-routine of excess, slapstick and coarse jesting.”

As a final touch, Vincent de Jesus’ musical score leaves audiences humming tunes (and demanding a cast recording) as it weaves through the narrative as the other “text” that embodies the romantic and whimsy of this play.

"Care Divas" includes a powerhouse cast of theater actors: PETA artists Melvin Lee, Vincent De Jesus, Phil Noble, Buddy Caramat, Dudz Teraña, Jason Barcial and Eric dela Cruz. Featuring guest artists: Paul Holme, Ricci Chan, Jerald Napoles, Myke Salomon, Angeli Bayani together with emerging actors Miguel Hidalgo and Dominic Miclat-Janssen. Veteran actress from Repertory Philippines, Joy Virata joins the cast as she portrays the role of Adara and Sara, formerly portrayed by PETA President, Cecilia Garrucho.

Day of Silence

Sponsored by GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, the National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country take some form of a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. Through their activities students can speak out against harassment and organize for change for their schools and communities. Traditionally all LGBT people observe The Day Of Silence, not just students. It takes all of us to make a difference

Worldwide Civil Rights March and Earth Day

How appropriate is the 2012 WORLDWIDE LGBT Civil Rights MARCH to be on April 21, 2012, the day before EARTH DAY on April 22, 2012; DIFFERENT DAYS, but the VERY SAME WEEKEND. It is EXTREMELY appropriate.

2012 is the 42nd Anniversary of EARTH DAY and 2012 is also the 42nd Anniversary of the very First GAY PRIDE PARADE taking place in New York City with more than2,000 LGBT marching (which just happened to be the 1 year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising)!

EARTH DAY 2012 promotes environmental awareness and will focus on BUILDING THE ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT & ENGAGING NEW ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISTS AROUND THE GLOBE!

The 2012 WORLDWIDE LGBT Civil Rights MARCH will focus on the RENEWED LGBT MOVEMENT & ENGAGING LGBT CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS AROUND THE GLOBE!

There is NO BETTER TIME to have the 2012 WORLDWIDE LGBT Civil Rights MARCH and the timing of it on the same weekend (but different days) of EARTH DAY 2012 is NOT ONLY EXTREMELY APPROPRIATE, but will show the WORLD the importance of PROTECTING BOTH THE EARTH and its INHABITANTS EQUALLY, as well as show the WORLD the importance of PROTECTING the UNALIENABLE BIRTH RIGHT of every being living together on PLANET EARTH!

Levelling the Playing Field

Join the RAINBOW RIGHTS PROJECT in “Levelling the Playing Field”

This OUTGAMES activity is a unique and fun festival with sports competition, exhibits, and human rights forums on LGBTQ rights with focus on the underserved LGBTQs with disabilities and marginalized transgendered youth in the urban slums. It aims to raise awareness, bring activists in touch with other intersectionalities and share ideas with government and non-government linkages. This is partially supported by the 2nd Asia-Pacific Outgames Legacy Fund.

Currently partnering with R-Rights for this project are Outrage Magazine, MASKARA-ProGay, a group of LGBT persons with disabilities and an association of environmentalist scuba divers. We are also working to get several government agencies on board. Gabriela Women’s Partylist has already provided some support.

Planned sub-events are the following: MASKARA Outgames on 11 February at Caloocan City; the Love Dive on 10 March in Batangas; a human rights forum with LGBTQs with disabilities (date and venue to be announced); and at least one other forum. The activity plans are still work in progress, and further announcements will be posted on Facebook as often as possible.

We are still asking for additional support from other LGBTQ groups. For inquiries, expressions of interest to volunteer and to provide financial support, please contact the organizers Ms. Angie Umbac and Oscar Atadero 09226798091.

PARADE MARSHAL TO CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION: 09269626715 (Michael Victor Panuncillon)

------

PARADE INFORMATION YOU SHOULD KNOW:

The Dumaguete Pride Parade is not a standalone parade. The City Health Office has allowed for a Pride Space in the City's annual World AIDS Day Awareness Walk. This has been negotiated with the City Health Office by Ladlad Negros Oriental Coordinator, Michael Panuncillon.

It is a wonderful start for Dumaguete's LGBTs to take to the streets and show WE ARE HERE AND WE WILL NEVER DISAPPEAR. Although the entire Parade is not exclusively ours, our visibility in the Parade will force the City Government and fellow Dumaguetenos to be confronted by our existence. Our visibility and our demands for equal rights and protection will hopefully surface the prejudice and discrimination we have all experienced. The Pride Parade will hopefully provide a venue for us to formally and informally negotiate Safe Spaces for us in the community and, perhaps, lead to negotiations on a City Ordinance on Anti-Discrimination based on SOGI.

Invite your straight allies (friends and families) to march with us on December 9! It takes courage to come out. It takes even greater courage to take our cause to the streets. We have lived with discrimination and prejudice in silence for too long. Courage is what it takes to start a revolution. Our first Pride Parade will be the start of bigger and grander Prides to come in Dumaguete.

Lesbian writer and activist Rita Mae Brown once declared in a speech, "No government has the right to tell its citizens when or whom to love. The only queer people are those who do not love anybody."

I joined Occupy for RH

Controversial. This is what RH bill is as of the moment. A decade has passed and the RH Bill hasn't been voted and was delayed. Why do I think the RH Bill should be passed?
I am a son. I would want my mother and other mothers out there to get access to reproductive health services and family planning. A woman is always at risk when she is pregnant and when giving birth. A woman's reproductive organs are sensitive and should be taken care of. Reproductive Health Bill addresses the concern about the safety of our mothers' lives. If you love your mother, support the RH Bill.

I am a Filipino.  I am the eldest among six (6) siblings and apparently, we are all at the same age bracket. My brother are all studying at the same time and my father's salary is just minimum. My case isn't the worst because there are more out there who are dozens in the family and whose earnings are just 50Php a day, or worst, none at all. Over population with a limited amount of wage and abundant unemployment. Yes, let's say poverty is because of not allocating the resources properly. However, it's just a part of it. Over population can cause poverty and we must control it. If you love your country, support the RH Bill.

I also went to Occupy for RH earlier and had fun talking to the intellectuals there. People who are using their critical thinking skills in order to fight for what is right. These people who are upholding their principles because they are using their brains and not following a set of structure that the society is telling them based on a "holy book" that would not allow you to eat pig and would even legalize slavery if read literally.

Let's support them by:
  • Going there personally and expressing our support
  • Donate food or anything that would help them
  • Share the word and express your thoughts on social sites regarding your support
With these small ways, WE WILL GUARANTEE THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY.

from: http://rhbill.org/occupy/
It has been ten years since the first RH Bill, and after countless debates and delays we are no closer to a vote. The democratic process has stalled at the hands of time-wasting legislators and bullying bishops.
With mounting frustration we remind our public servants that for every day they delay the vote, Filipino families around the country lose their mothers. The time for delay is over. The time for a vote is now.
Starting tomorrow, November 21, RH Advocates from various organizations will occupy the park across the South Wing Gate of Congress, and launch a massive and sustained campaign to remind our Senators and Members of Congress of the urgency to vote on the Reproductive Health Bill before the year ends.

Pro-RH lawmakers, celebrities, artists, government officials, civil society and non-government groups, business, academe, youth, religious and non-religious sectors will show their support at this mass action, and advocates will camp out in front of the South Wing Gate for as long as it takes for their voices to be heard.
We urge you to join us, tomorrow and onwards, and lend your voice to a movement that will save Filipino lives. Various activities will be held at the camp and at the South Wing Gate, such as a noise barrage, cultural and solidarity nights, pickets, creative and symbolic protests, actions that will make our legislators listen.
For ten years we have been ignored, the cries of the People drowned out by the powerful few. But no more. Together we will stand, together we will shout, and together we will Occupy for RH till our legislators vote for RH now.

Unang Ulan ng Mayo

Harlequin Theatre Guild, the resident theatre organization of De La Salle University (DLSU), will be staging, for the fourth time, Palanca Awardee, J.I.E. Teodoro’s “Unang Ulan ng Mayo” on November 28-29 and December 1-3, 2011 at the Black Box Theater in De La Salle-College of St. Benilde – School of Design and Arts.

This production is in collaboration with the Arts College Government (ACG) of DLSU and will serve as part of the week-long advocacy against gender discrimination and more specifically, fighting for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual (LGBT) Rights. “Unang Ulan ng Mayo,” happened in San Anghel, Antique, as polio victim Victor discovers a rare type of love. As this love is to be revealed, a painful truth that links to the past and secrets of his family will be unveiled. This play is to be performed in Filipino language.

With this, we would like to invite your organization to watch and support this production. Ticket price is at PHP 200. We will be giving a maximum of twenty (20) complimentary tickets for the premiere night on November 28, 2011. If your organization prefer to watch on another show schedule, you will have to pay the PHP 200 each.

It will surely be an excellent artistic opportunity for you to capture the Lasallian market and gain exposure within the Lasallian community. It will be of great honor for us to acknowledge your organization in this production. The guild is confident that this project will be a worthwhile investment to your future growth.
We hope you can be our partner in celebrating the centennial year of De La Salle University-Manila.

Upon confirmation, kindly send us a list of those who will watch, as well as the specific play/s to be watched at least one (1) week before the show week, in order for us to secure entry permits to DLSU’s main gate (South Gate, near McDonald’s, Vito Cruz) for your orderly entrance. Please expect our member/s to follow up this letter in the coming days.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mary Rose Dizon, the guild’s Division Manager (DM) for Marketing and Publicity, at 09178262880 / 09228272868. You may also send us an e-mail at harlequintheatreguild@gmail.com. For more information, you may visit our website at www.htgdlsu.multiply.com.

Pride of the Orient, the 17th Annual Pride March

Task Force Pride, a non-profit network of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) groups will organize the 17th Annual Pride March in Manila. The aim of the march is to gather different LGBT groups, allies and individuals in solidarity, as well as provide positive visibility to the community.

This year's theme, “Pride of the Orient”, recalls the community's achievements with regard to advancing LGBT human rights, such as... organizing the first pride march in Asia in 1994 and the formation of Ladlad party list, the only LGBT-oriented party list in the world, and extensive HIV/AIDS Awareness campaigns nationwide .

“Pride of the Orient” calls on LGBT Filipinos to reclaim these milestones and look forward to more victories they've yet to achieve.
