CareDivas goes to Onstage,Greenbelt. April27-29

These shows will be shown at Onstage, Greenbelt as a result of the first-ever partnership of PETA and Repertory Philippines since the their founding forty-five years ago.

The scheduled encore performances are packed with the same combination of explosive dance numbers, fancy music, comedic antics, and a visual feast of glitter, wigs and high heels that enticed audiences of its earlier shows.

“Care Divas” remains as a highly physical, visually exciting play inspired by general life-stories of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW’s) who work as care givers of elderly Jews in the morning and pursue their own personal dreams as drag performers at night.

The play’s theatrical and wickedly funny text, written by award-winning Playwright, Liza Magtoto still cradles lovely gentle moments that mull over the lonely lives of the main characters.

The play's director Maribel Legarda shares the recognition of the plays success. In a review by (production designer/writer) Martin Masadao, Legarda is commended for her excellent treatment of the script: “Legarda does not patronize nor trivialize the OFW experience. It was good judgment on her part to exercise restraint so that the production does not come out too campy. The Care Divas' musical numbers are at the opposite end of the usual gay-comedy-bar-routine of excess, slapstick and coarse jesting.”

As a final touch, Vincent de Jesus’ musical score leaves audiences humming tunes (and demanding a cast recording) as it weaves through the narrative as the other “text” that embodies the romantic and whimsy of this play.

"Care Divas" includes a powerhouse cast of theater actors: PETA artists Melvin Lee, Vincent De Jesus, Phil Noble, Buddy Caramat, Dudz Teraña, Jason Barcial and Eric dela Cruz. Featuring guest artists: Paul Holme, Ricci Chan, Jerald Napoles, Myke Salomon, Angeli Bayani together with emerging actors Miguel Hidalgo and Dominic Miclat-Janssen. Veteran actress from Repertory Philippines, Joy Virata joins the cast as she portrays the role of Adara and Sara, formerly portrayed by PETA President, Cecilia Garrucho.
